Form-A-Lines single colour or multi-colour?

Form-A-Lines patterns are designed to look good in a single colour of thread. The reason for this is that one of the ways they are sold is in kits. Since a reel of metallic thread forms a substantial part of the cost of a kit it makes economic sense to design for one colour.

The card maker can choose to stitch the design in multi-colours if they wish. There is usually more than enough thread on a 50 meter reel of thread to stitch six cards. Therefore after purchasing a few Form-A-Lines kits you may have amassed a collection of threads of various colours. You can also add to your colour collection by purchasing more thread.

The illustration shows a design from the new Form-A-Lines Quilt Block Flowers set. The left-hand picture is stitched in confetti pink thread as supplied in the kit. This is a mixture of pinks, yellows and blue-greens. I really like the random colour effect produced by confetti thread.

The picture on the right is stitched in green, copper and purple thread. The card was made by my wife for her mother’s birthday. I think that it is a beautiful choice of colours.

The Quilt Block Flowers set is available form the Form-A-Lines download store and in printed booklets from stockists.

Camel pattern added at Stitching Cards

A camel pattern has been added at the Stitching Cards website. It makes a great birthday card for animal lovers. It can also be used for congratulations, thank you and other messages.

There are two species of camels: the dromedary or Arabian camel has a single hump, and the Bactrian camel has two humps. Dromedaries are native to the dry desert areas of West Asia, and Bactrian camels are native to Central and East Asia. Both species are domesticated; they provide milk and meat, and are beasts of burden…

Thames sailing barge pattern added at Stitching Cards

A Thames sailing barge pattern has been added at the Stitching Cards website. It makes a great birthday card for men. It can also be used for congratulations, thank you and other messages.

A Thames sailing barge was a type of commercial sailing boat common on the River Thames in London in the 19th century. The flat-bottomed barges were perfectly adapted to the Thames Estuary, with its shallow waters and narrow rivers.

The barges also traded much further afield, to the north of England, the South Coast and even to continental European ports. Cargoes varied enormously: bricks, mud, hay, rubbish, sand, coal and grain, for example…

Rooster pattern added at Stitching Cards

A rooster pattern has been added at the Stitching Cards website. It makes a great birthday card for men. It can also be used for congratulations, thank you and other messages.

The term “rooster”, for a male chicken, originates from the United States, while in the United Kingdom the older term “cockerel” is more widely used. During the daytime, he often sits on a high perch, usually 4 to 5 feet off the ground to serve as a lookout for his flock. He will sound a distinctive alarm call if predators are nearby…

Enchanting witch Halloween pattern at Stitching Cards

An enchanting witch pattern has been added at the Stitching Cards website. The sexy witch on a broomstick flying across the moon would make a great Halloween card for teenage girls.

This year Halloween falls on Sunday, the 31st of October 2010. Witches have had a long association with Halloween. Legends tell of witches gathering twice a year when the seasons changed, on April 30, the eve of May Day and again on the eve of October 31, All Hallows’ Eve.

It is said that witches would arrive on broomsticks to celebrate at a party hosted by the devil. Superstitions tell of witches casting spells on unsuspecting people, transform themselves into different forms and causing other magical mischief…
