Your information about Ramadan is correct, David, from my experience. The greetings you quote are in Arabic, when we were in Malaysia the greetings were always in Malay – Selamat Hari Raya (Literally greetings on the big day)

We lived in Malaysian Borneo for about 10 years and I regularly made cards for several festivals – including Chinese New Year (still make those), Gawai – local Harvest Festival celebrated by the native tribes, Diwali, Nauroz (Ba’hai New Year), Hari Raya and Christmas.

I have been told that at the beginning of Ramadan, it is appropriate to wish Muslims “Ramadan Mubarak” which means “Blessed Ramadan.” At its conclusion, you may say “Eid Mubarak” which means “Blessed Festival”.

I think you have chosen the wrong day for Ramadan, according to my diary 22nd August is the First Day, the Festival of Eid ul Fitri, at the end of the fasting month, is the following new moon, not marked in my diary.
